Ballroom dancing lets us escape our world for a brief moment appear in a new wonderful place while we glide across the dance floor.

Is the most romantic and beautiful dance ever known.

The Waltz is comprised of soft, round, flowing movements. With its distinctive rhythm pattern (music is written in 3/4 time), the Waltz is easy to recognise and simple to learn.

Slow Foxtrot

Is a smooth progressive dance characterised by long, continuous flowing movements across the dance floor. The dance is composed of fairly simple walking steps and side steps.

Because of its smoothness, it is often referred to as the Rolls Royce of the standard dances.

Once you learn the foxtrot, you really feel like a dancer.

International (or Ballroom) Tango

This is a powerful dance with big movements and dramatic gestures, with head snaps and long strides; the love hate relationship of a married couple on the dance floor

It took its origin from the Argentine Tango, which came from the lower class of Buenos Aires as a gauchos’ dance. But in 1900s Camille de Rhynal , French choreographer, completely in Love with Tango,  after changing music a bit and simplifying the choreography, presented a mix of Latin-American passion and British stiffness as European Tango, which soon had conquered European pampered audience . The Grand Duchess Anastasie of Russia oversaw its development by Monsieur Camille.
Rudolph Valentino in 1920. with his film, “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” gave new life to the Tango and birth to the International style of Tango as we know it now.

Is a ballroom dance style composed of extremely quick stepping in time to fast-paced music. Although difficult to master and perform, the Quickstep is lots of fun to watch.   It may appear that the feet of the dancers barely touch the ground. But the uplifting, happy , flirtations music helps dancers to fly across the dance floor.

The Quickstep was developed in the 1920s in England as a combination of Charleston and a Quick Foxtrot

Viennese waltz

The elegant and charming dance reminds us of glamorous balls of European Royal Courts. Waltzing couples gracefully revolving around the floor and each other. Elegant Ladies, real Gentlemen. It’s a pretty quick dance, your heart rate will definitely increase as it is danced at about 180 beats a minute!

But the simplied social version is a beautiful, non-strenuous dance that dancers of all abilities can enjoy

Originating in the 13th century in Germany and Austria as a folklore dance, it became a popular dance of the royal courts under the name of Volta, (15th c.) Nizzarda (16th century), Allemande (18th) and finally replaced the stately, solemn, procession-based dances of courtiers, sparkling revolt and scandals from traditional lovers of old ballroom dance, by  ¾ time waltz , as a phenomenal music creations of Johann Strauss and Franz Lanner.

Ballroom Latin dances are partner dances enjoyed socially and competitively all over the world. The following dances are popular on dance floors, in films, on stages and on television.  If you've ever seen "Dancing With the Stars," you have probably seen those  dances in action

The cha-cha is a vibrant, playful dance full of passion and energy The light and bubbly feel of the cha-cha gives it a unique sense of fun.

Also called the cha-cha-cha, this dance  originated in Cuba in the 1940s

The name derived from the unusual rattles that beat the rhythm. They are made from the pods of the cha-cha plants, filled with corn. The rhythm of the dance is twice as fast as the beating of the heart - 120 beats per minute.

The Rumba is a very slow, serious, romantic dance. Figures of the dance have a teasing theme in which the lady flirts with and then rejects her male partner,

Known as a "grandfather of the Latin dances”, just a few centuries ago it was a ritual african dance. The word rumba is translated as the “path of the soul.”

Dance requires incredible coordination of movements and an excellent sense of rhythm

Is both arrogant and passionate, The Paso Doble is performed more as a competition dance than as a social dance,  In Spanish, "Paso Doble" means "two-step" and refers to the marching nature of the steps.

Modeled after the drama of the Spanish bullfight, this theatrical dance involves role-playing of sorts. The man plays the role of a matador (bullfighter) and the lady is his red cape. This dance is very pushy, wide, sweeping.

Happy, boppy, energetic dance, with plenty of knee-lifting, kicking , even twirling of the woman, and doesn't move around the dance floor like other dances.

Jive shares many figures, as well as the same music style and tempo with the Swing,.The look and feel of jive is that it is performed with lots and lots of energy,

The samba is considered the dance of celebration and joy at Carnivals in Brazil.  It came from Africa in 16th century and infused it into Latin America culture .

The festive mood of the dance is responsible for its continued popularity.

Partnered ballroom samba has a quick beat that requires fast footwork, constant hip work and travels around the whole dance floor.
